Is Expression the Opposite of Depression? Companion Walking Along!

While watching a video 'How to Deal with Sadness' by Michael Beckwith on Mindvalley, I heard a line that stayed with me. The root idea as I understood was, "Is expression the opposite of depression?". It was as if I was given a solution to my situation, after a few years of going through it. The questions that next came to my mind were,

"Was I sad or depressed because I didn't or couldn't express enough?"
"Was it just built up emotions & not something which had stigma attached to it?"
"Can I totally come out of it by just expressing?"
"What should I express and to whom?"
"Will expressing through hobbies count?"
"Does this theory make introverts more prone?"

Michael Beckwith also introduced the idea of considering sadness as a companion, and the following questions came to my mind,

"If sadness was a companion (personified), would I be embarrassed to introduce him or her to fellow people?"
"How can I introduce my companion in a dignified manner?"
"Do I even need to introduce my companion to everyone?"

By personifying sadness I am already feeling better about handling everything with dignity and empathy. If you have gone through something that made you feel this way or if you are going through something currently, I would urge you to respect yourself, respect your feelings & find a way to express yourself.
